# IconMuse: full reference > IconMuse by ChordMuse is a library of 199 hand-drawn music icons (24×24 grid, 1.5px round stroke, currentColor). It's distributed as an npm package (`iconmuse`, with a React component and an Web Component), a Swift Package (`IconMuse`), a Flutter package (`iconmuse`), an Android library (`app.chordmuse:iconmuse`), raw SVG and JSON. --- # IconMuse on any website **Status:** live. These files are served by https://icons.chordmuse.app. ## Web Component (recommended) ```html ``` | Attribute | Default | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | | `name` | (required) | Kebab-case icon name; see the gallery or `https://icons.chordmuse.app/llms.txt` | | `size` | `1em` | Any CSS length or a number in px | | `color` | `currentColor` | Inherits the surrounding text colour | | `stroke-width` | `1.5` | Line thickness, 0.5–3. Preview values with the website's **Stroke** slider | | `label` | (none) | Accessible name. Without it the icon is `aria-hidden` | ## Inline SVG Click an icon in the gallery and choose **Copy SVG**, then paste it into your HTML. Inline SVG follows CSS `color` and needs no JavaScript. The copied SVG uses the thickness set on the website's **Stroke** slider. ## Image tag ```html Play ``` Images can't inherit colour, so they always render black. Use the Web Component or inline SVG when you need colour. ## Classic script (no modules) ```html ``` ## Self-hosting Copy `dist/icon-muse.js` and `dist/index.mjs` into your site. Both files are needed. Alternatively, run the [IconMuse skill](ai-agents.md) to generate a single self-contained `iconmuse.js` with only the icons you use. --- # IconMuse for React and Next.js There are two options. Both give you the same `` component. ## Option A: install the npm package ```bash npm i iconmuse ``` ```tsx import { IconMuse } from 'iconmuse/react'; export function PlayButton() { return ( ); } ``` Updates come through npm like any other dependency. ## Option B: generate the component into your project ```bash npx iconmuse generate # all icons npx iconmuse generate --icons play, pause, vinyl # only these ``` This writes `components/iconmuse/IconMuse.tsx` (or `.jsx`) plus the icon data into your project, and adds no dependency. It's best if you want only a few icons or full control over the code. Then: ```tsx import { IconMuse } from '@/components/iconmuse'; ``` The command prints the exact import path for your project. ## Props | Prop | Default | Notes | | --- | --- | --- | | `name` | (required) | Typed, so your editor autocompletes every icon name | | `size` | `24` | Number (px) or any CSS length | | `color` | `currentColor` | Follows CSS `color` | | `strokeWidth` | `1.5` | | | `title` | (none) | Makes the icon accessible (`role="img"`). Without it, the icon is `aria-hidden` | Any other SVG prop (`className`, `style`, `onClick`, `ref`, …) is passed through to the ``. ## Line thickness (stroke) Set `strokeWidth` on any icon, using a value between 0.5 and 3: ```tsx // bolder // lighter ``` With Option B, `npx iconmuse generate --stroke 2` changes the default for every icon. The website's **Stroke** slider shows what each value looks like. ## Next.js The component has no hooks, so it works in Server Components without `"use client"`. ## React Native Use Option B. `npx iconmuse generate` detects React Native and Expo and writes a `react-native-svg` version of the component. --- # IconMuse for Vue, Nuxt, Svelte, Angular, Solid and Astro ## Option A: a native component (recommended) In your project folder: ```bash npx iconmuse generate # all icons npx iconmuse generate --icons play, pause, vinyl # only these ``` It detects your framework and writes a typed component in that framework's own style: | Framework | What it writes | Use | | --- | --- | --- | | Vue 3 | `src/components/iconmuse/IconMuse.vue` | `` | | Nuxt 3/4 | `components/IconMuse.vue` (auto-imported) | `` | | Svelte / SvelteKit | `src/lib/iconmuse/IconMuse.svelte` | `` | | Angular | `src/app/iconmuse/iconmuse.component.ts` | `` | | SolidJS | `src/components/iconmuse/IconMuse.tsx` | `` | | Astro | `src/components/iconmuse/IconMuse.astro` | `` (zero JavaScript) | The command prints the exact import line for your project. To update, run it again; it only replaces its own files. ### Line thickness (stroke) Every generated component has a stroke setting, using a value between 0.5 and 3 (default 1.5): | Framework | Example | | --- | --- | | Vue / Nuxt | `` | | Svelte | `` | | Angular | `` | | Solid / Astro | `` | To change the default for every icon, generate with `npx iconmuse generate --stroke 2`. ## Option B: the Web Component from npm ```bash npm i iconmuse ``` ```js import 'iconmuse/element'; ``` ```html ``` Framework settings for custom elements: - **Vue / Nuxt:** `compilerOptions.isCustomElement = (tag) => tag === 'icon-muse'` - **Angular:** add `CUSTOM_ELEMENTS_SCHEMA` to the component's `schemas` - **Svelte, Solid, Astro:** works as-is --- # IconMuse for iOS and macOS One command adds the icons to your Xcode project. You need [Node.js](https://nodejs.org) 18 or later on your Mac to run it; your app itself doesn't use Node. ## 1. Add the icons In Terminal, go to your app's folder (the one containing the `.xcodeproj`): ```bash cd path/to/your-ios-app npx iconmuse generate --dry-run # preview what it will add npx iconmuse generate # add the icons ``` It finds your app's `Assets.xcassets` and adds two items next to it: ```text YourApp/ ├── Assets.xcassets (yours, untouched) ├── IconMuse.xcassets (new: every icon as a vector image) └── IconMuse.swift (new: a Swift enum listing every icon) ``` To add only the icons you need: ```bash npx iconmuse generate --icons play, pause, vinyl ``` ## 2. Check Xcode includes them - **Projects created in Xcode 16 or later:** nothing to do. New files in the folder appear automatically. - **Older projects:** in Xcode, right-click your app's folder, choose **Add Files to "YourApp"…**, select `IconMuse.xcassets` and `IconMuse.swift`, and tick your app target. You only need to do this once. ## 3. Use the icons ```swift // SwiftUI IconMuse.play.image .resizable() .frame(width: 24, height: 24) .foregroundStyle(.purple) Label { Text("Play") } icon: { IconMuse.play.image } // UIKit let icon = UIImage(named: IconMuse.vinyl.rawValue) button.setImage(icon, for: .normal) button.tintColor = .systemPurple ``` - **Tinting:** icons are template images, so they take the colour you set, like SF Symbols. - **Sharp at any size:** they're vectors. - **Autocomplete:** names are camelCase (`guitar-electric` becomes `IconMuse.guitarElectric`), and Xcode suggests them all. ## Line thickness (stroke) Icons are drawn with a 1.5 line by default. On iOS, the thickness is fixed into the images when they're generated, so choose it with `--stroke`, using a value between 0.5 and 3: ```bash npx iconmuse generate --stroke 2 # bolder npx iconmuse generate --stroke 1 # lighter ``` To change it later, run the command again with a different value. The website's **Stroke** slider shows what each value looks like. ## Updating Run `npx iconmuse generate` again in the same folder. It only replaces `IconMuse.xcassets` and `IconMuse.swift`, never your own code or assets. Include the same `--stroke` value if you used one. ## Finding icon names Browse them at https://icons.chordmuse.app, or in Terminal: ```bash npx iconmuse list --search guitar ``` --- # IconMuse for Flutter One command adds the icons to your Flutter project. You need [Node.js](https://nodejs.org) 18 or later on your computer to run it; your app itself doesn't use Node. ## 1. Add the icons In a terminal, go to your app's folder (the one containing `pubspec.yaml`): ```bash cd path/to/your-flutter-app npx iconmuse generate --dry-run # preview what it will add npx iconmuse generate # add the icons ``` It writes one file: ```text your-flutter-app/ └── lib/ └── iconmuse/ └── iconmuse.dart (every icon plus an IconMuse widget) ``` To add only the icons you need: ```bash npx iconmuse generate --icons play, pause, vinyl ``` ## 2. Add flutter_svg The icons are drawn with the standard [`flutter_svg`](https://pub.dev/packages/flutter_svg) package. If your app doesn't have it yet, the command tells you. Run: ```bash flutter pub add flutter_svg ``` ## 3. Use the icons The command prints your exact import line. It looks like this: ```dart import 'package:your_app/iconmuse/iconmuse.dart'; IconMuse(IconMuseIcons.play) IconMuse(IconMuseIcons.guitarElectric, size: 32, color: Colors.purple) IconButton( icon: IconMuse(IconMuseIcons.play), onPressed: () {}, ) IconMuse(IconMuseIcons.vinyl, semanticLabel: 'Vinyl') // read out by screen readers ``` - **Theming:** `IconMuse` follows your app's `IconTheme` for size and colour, like Flutter's own `Icon`. It adapts to light and dark mode and works in `IconButton`, `AppBar` and `BottomNavigationBar`. - **Autocomplete:** names are camelCase (`guitar-electric` becomes `IconMuseIcons.guitarElectric`), and your editor suggests them all. ## Line thickness (stroke) Icons are drawn with a 1.5 line by default. Change it per icon with `strokeWidth`, using a value between 0.5 and 3: ```dart IconMuse(IconMuseIcons.play, strokeWidth: 2) // bolder IconMuse(IconMuseIcons.play, strokeWidth: 1) // lighter ``` To change the default for every icon, generate with `--stroke`: ```bash npx iconmuse generate --stroke 2 ``` The website's **Stroke** slider shows what each value looks like. ## Updating Run `npx iconmuse generate` again in the same folder. It only replaces `lib/iconmuse/iconmuse.dart`. Include the same `--stroke` value if you used one. ## Finding icon names Browse them at https://icons.chordmuse.app, or in a terminal: ```bash npx iconmuse list --search drum ``` --- # IconMuse for Android and Jetpack Compose One command adds the icons to your Android project as vector drawables. You need [Node.js](https://nodejs.org) 18 or later on your computer to run it; your app itself doesn't use Node. ## 1. Add the icons In a terminal, go to your project's root folder (the one containing `settings.gradle` or `settings.gradle.kts`): ```bash cd path/to/your-android-app npx iconmuse generate --dry-run # preview what it will add npx iconmuse generate # add the icons ``` It finds your app module and writes one vector drawable per icon: ```text app/src/main/res/drawable/ ├── ic_iconmuse_play.xml ├── ic_iconmuse_pause.xml └── … ``` To add only the icons you need, which keeps your app smaller: ```bash npx iconmuse generate --icons play, pause, vinyl ``` ## 2. Use the icons ```kotlin // Jetpack Compose Icon( painter = painterResource(R.drawable.ic_iconmuse_play), contentDescription = "Play", tint = MaterialTheme.colorScheme.primary, ) // Views (Kotlin) imageView.setImageResource(R.drawable.ic_iconmuse_headphones) ``` ```xml ``` - **Naming:** resource names are `ic_iconmuse_` followed by the icon name in snake_case, so `guitar-electric` becomes `ic_iconmuse_guitar_electric`. - **Tinting:** set the colour with `tint` in Compose, or `app:tint` / `android:tint` in Views. ## Line thickness (stroke) Icons are drawn with a 1.5 line by default. On Android, the thickness is fixed into the drawables when they're generated, so choose it with `--stroke`, using a value between 0.5 and 3: ```bash npx iconmuse generate --stroke 2 # bolder npx iconmuse generate --stroke 1 # lighter ``` To change it later, run the command again with a different value. The website's **Stroke** slider shows what each value looks like. ## Updating Run `npx iconmuse generate` again in the same folder. It only replaces its own `ic_iconmuse_*.xml` files. Include the same `--stroke` value if you used one. ## Finding icon names Browse them at https://icons.chordmuse.app, or in a terminal: ```bash npx iconmuse list --search guitar ``` --- # IconMuse from any language **Status:** live at `https://icons.chordmuse.app/dist/icons.json`. ```bash curl https://icons.chordmuse.app/dist/icons.json ``` ## Format ```json { "name": "IconMuse", "version": "1.0.0", "viewBox": "0 0 24 24", "strokeWidth": 1.5, "strokeLinecap": "round", "strokeLinejoin": "round", "categories": [{ "id": "notation", "label": "Notation" }], "icons": [ { "name": "play", "category": "playback", "tags": ["start"], "paths": [{ "d": "M7 4.8v14.4…Z", "filled": false }] } ] } ``` To draw an icon: 1. Set up a 24 × 24 canvas. 2. Stroke every path at `strokeWidth`, with round caps and round joins, in your colour. 3. Also fill the paths where `filled` is `true`, using the same colour. All path data is free of transforms. ## Python example ```python import json, urllib.request data = json.load(urllib.request.urlopen("https://icons.chordmuse.app/dist/icons.json")) icon = next(i for i in data["icons"] if i["name"] == "vinyl") paths = "".join( f'" for p in icon["paths"] ) svg = f'{paths}' ``` Individual SVG files are also available at `https://icons.chordmuse.app/svg/.svg`. --- # IconMuse for AI agents ## The IconMuse skill The skill lets coding agents such as Claude Code add IconMuse to any project. It detects the stack and then either installs the official package or generates a typed, framework-native icon pack. **Supported stacks:** React, Next.js, React Native / Expo, Vue, Nuxt, Svelte / SvelteKit, Angular (with or without `@for`), Solid, Astro, vanilla HTML / Lit, Django, Flask, Rails, Laravel, PHP, Go, Flutter, Android / Compose, and iOS / macOS (SwiftUI, UIKit). It's also monorepo-aware. ### Install the skill Download the skill into Claude Code's skills folder. These commands install it for every project: ```bash mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/iconmuse/scripts ~/.claude/skills/iconmuse/assets cd ~/.claude/skills/iconmuse curl -fsSL https://icons.chordmuse.app/skills/iconmuse/SKILL.md -o SKILL.md curl -fsSL https://icons.chordmuse.app/skills/iconmuse/scripts/iconmuse.mjs -o scripts/iconmuse.mjs curl -fsSL https://icons.chordmuse.app/skills/iconmuse/assets/icons.json -o assets/icons.json ``` To install it for one project only, use `/.claude/skills/iconmuse` instead of `~/.claude/skills/iconmuse`. Then ask, for example: *"Add IconMuse play, pause and volume icons to the player bar."* Read the skill's instructions at [`https://icons.chordmuse.app/skills/iconmuse/SKILL.md`](https://icons.chordmuse.app/skills/iconmuse/SKILL.md). ### Run it directly No agent is needed. It requires Node 18 or later. ```bash npx iconmuse detect --cwd my-app npx iconmuse generate --cwd my-app --icons play, pause npx iconmuse list --search drum ``` ## Machine-readable pages | URL |
